University of Calgary (Canada) Scholarships 2019
University of Calgary Scholarships are being offered to qualified international students. This excellent university is located in Alberta, Canada and has offered its students quality education. The university was originally part of University of Alberta which was founded in 1908 but has split off as a separate institution in 1944. In 1966, it has gain autocracy and became completely separate.
Since its founding, University of Calgary has provided excellent education to thousands and thousands of students. Currently, around 25,000 undergradaute students and 6,000 graduate students are studying in various campuses and also in 14 faculties and 85 research institutes. After the graduate, these students succeed in various fields which is the reason why many students want to study in University of Calgary. Some of the successful alumni include James Gosling, Stephen Harper, and Robert Thirsk. For those who don’t know, Gosling invented the Java programming language. Stephen Harper was a Canadian Minister, and Robert Thirsk was an astronaut.
I have mentioned in previous paragraph that University of Calgary has many different campuses in which students can stay. These beautiful campuses include the main campus located in Calgary where most students are. Also, there are the West Campus, a huge land granted by the Alberta government, Health Science Campus, Downtown Campus, and Spy Hill Campus. The latest addition to these campuses is the Qatar campus which was built in 2007. The goal of this campus is to provide the world’s best nursing programs in the world.
So, how do University of Calgary scholarships come from? There are many sources of income for this university. Like other universities, its main income is tuition fees, but it also receive significant income from research grants. These grants are given by many Canadian organizations and the government because of its fabulous research abilities by professors and students. The total income fo Univeristy of Calgary is $1.1 billion and research grant is $360 million. As you can see, the research grant comprises the vast percentage of the income. Because of the large revenue, many students do receive University of Calgary scholarships to help them fund the tuition fees.
So, what can you study in University of Calgary. This university offers a variety of courses for students ranging from medicine and STEM to law and humanities. There are more than 240 programs available for undergraduate, Master’s, and PhD students. There also a variety of academic resources available as well including eight libraries, two art museums, and University Press. The libraries hold vast amount of academic materials and subscription to many academic papers so that students can research and write their papers.
Admissions
The admission process for international students are very similar to that of domestic students. For undergraduate students, the application opens in September 15th, and the deadline for prestigious University of Calgary scholarships is December 15th. Also, the regular application deadline is March 1. The application is accepted online, and the only difference between domestic and international application is that international students have to have an English Language Requirement.
For graduate students, the application process is also similar except that graduate students need to proide the immigration status. Students can be concerned about the immigration status after they are admitted. They can contact the office of international students for this concern.

For undergraduate students, international students are eligible for more than full tuition scholarships if they do get the most prestigious award. The entrance scholarships are the most frequently awarded University of Calgary scholarships, and there are two types of these awards.
University of Calgary Schulich Leaders Scholarships
- Scholarship Amount- $25,000 per year for four years
- Number of Awards- 2
- Eligibility- Must be international student with high academic merit

- Scholarship Amount- $10,000 for four years
- Number of Awards- Variable

University of Calgary Scholarships (Graduate)
Unlike the undergraduate scholarships, there are many scholarships that are available for international graduate students. First, there are many scholarships offered by the Canadian government and the state government. Vanier scholarships and Alberta scholarships fall into this category. The university itself do award many scholarships to graduate students as well such as the Doctoral Entrance Awards.
